Strategic Airlift Apron, Cargo and Passenger Terminals

The comprehensive project involved the development of over 56,000 square meters of apron and taxiways tailored for strategic cargo aircraft, including C-17s. The infrastructure comprised a 790-square-meter passenger terminal, a 1,200-square-meter cargo terminal, and a robust fire suppression system with a substantial 600,000 liters of water storage. Detailed engineering of formworks was a cornerstone, meticulously meeting the stringent specifications set by the military.

A pivotal aspect of the initiative was the construction of a passenger terminal within the Reception, Staging, Onward Movement, and Integration (RSOI) facility. This encompassed the creation of a parking area, interconnected roadways, and bus loops at the terminal. The secure RSOI building, housed within a 2,400-square-meter pre-engineered structure, was meticulously designed to accommodate American, British, and VIP personnel safely and efficiently. Supporting facilities included designated parking areas for vehicles and buses, along with a service road connecting the facility to the strategic airlift apron and the cargo handling area.

The project featured a 35,000-square-meter paved cargo handling yard, complete with a cargo warehouse equipped with utilities, lighting, site improvements, drainage, and a fire suppression system. The primary facility comprised a 10,000-square-meter cargo warehouse, incorporating offices for U.S. personnel and operations, alongside a substantial paved handling yard. Supporting amenities included fencing and gates suitable for trucks, a point source power generation, and high mast lighting. The contractor’s strategic turnover of an initial apron section ahead of the facility’s completion significantly enhanced air base operations.
