Workshop Building, Fire Truck and Smoking Shelters

The commissioning of the Basra Natural Gas Liquids Plant (BNGL) stands as a milestone for Iraq’s energy sector, exemplifying a strategic move to tap into the nation’s abundant natural gas resources. Spearheaded by Basra Gas Company, a joint venture between Shell and the Iraqi government, the contract was awarded to China Petroleum Engineering & Construction Corp (CPECC), resulting in the successful operation of BNGL. This initiative is a pivotal step toward bolstering economic growth and ensuring a sustainable energy future for Iraq.

Situated at the Ar Ratawi oilfield, 75 kilometers west of Basra, the BNGL project aimed to augment capacity by 40%, incorporating an 11 billion cubic liters per day greenfield gas processing plant with two trains, each boasting a capacity exceeding 5 billion cubic liters per day. This endeavor involves cutting-edge processes to gather, and process associated gas from prominent oilfields, including Rumaila, Zubair, and West Qurna1.

In our scope, we were entrusted with the structural design and static projects for the workshop building, fire truck facilities, and smoking shelters. Leveraging the inherent strength of steel, the pre-engineered steel building system was employed, providing exceptional clearance and load-bearing capacity. Crafted with light gauge steel frames, the structures minimized energy consumption and waste during production. Engineered to withstand local conditions, including high temperatures and sandstorms, the design ensures a long-lasting and resilient solution for permanent construction.
