ZADCO UZ750 Containerized Units

Situated 84km off the coast of Abu Dhabi, the Upper Zakum Offshore Oil Field Development project undertaken by Zakum Development Company (ZADCO) marks a monumental endeavor in the realm of offshore engineering. Situated in the vast expanse of the ocean, this project involves the design and engineering of accommodation and utilities for artificial islands, catering to the needs of the offshore oil field development.

Ensuring the safety and integrity of the units is paramount, with a primary focus on designing gas-tight structures. Our scope of work encompasses the comprehensive engineering and construction projects of accommodation facilities, supporting buildings, and permanent utilities. This includes accommodation for 3,200 personnel, essential amenities such as kitchen, mess hall, clinic, laundry, recreation areas, and mosque, as well as operation and drilling offices and workshops, and coordination for the installation of power, water, diesel fuel, and sanitary systems.

With the challenges posed by the isolated island sites of Upper Zakum, characterized by limited space and remote accessibility, innovation and adaptability are key. This project presents a unique case, requiring a blend of offshore skills and disciplines rarely seen in conventional onshore projects.

Nearly half of the fabrication work, including modules weighing over 3,000 tonnes, is executed more than 6,000 km away in South Korea, Singapore, and China. Precision planning and expertise in logistics by the contractor company were especially important for the success of the project, ensuring seamless coordination and delivery across vast distances.
