Turkish Petroleum Headquarters

The Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) Headquarters, situated within the Filyos Port area, serves as a distinguished office space and an observation point seamlessly integrated with the vertical breakwater. The innovative design envisaged the conversion of a section of the existing breakwater into a 110-meter-wide, 30-meter-deep interface space. The three-story building, spanning approximately 3270 square meters, stands atop the breakwater, which has been raised from 4.5 to 9 meters, bringing the building’s highest elevation point to 17 meters.

The ground floor, designed as a communal area, encompasses the main entrance, information-lobby, kitchen, technical area, and support volumes. Central to TPAO Headquarters is a two-story atrium that not only facilitates circulation but also establishes visual connection between various spaces. The first floor houses open office areas, the general manager’s room, secretariat, cafeteria, archive, and support volumes. The VIP meeting room, suspended like a hanging structure above the main atrium, accommodates up to 50 people. The second floor features the main meeting room, a spacious foyer, and an observation terrace offering breathtaking views of the Black Sea and the operational dynamics of Filyos Port.

In our role, we prepared shop drawings for both structural steel and reinforced concrete, employing a hybrid approach. For the façade, detailed drawings of steel carriers for external cladding panels were provided, integrating BIM software for clash tests. Working in collaboration with static projects provider Werner Sobek, we revised the structural design as necessary to enhance the construction process’s efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Our proposal for the utilization of Thermo Natural, which offers thermal insulation and waterproof properties, for the curvilinear roof simplified the montage methodology, avoiding the need for rockwool panels.
